Working conditions

What are working conditions?

Working conditions are physical and mental challenges that happen to trick the human body and make it more difficult to work. The working conditions can be different depending on where you are, the job and the situation you are in. Also, depending on the working condition (good or bad) it can impact the employees' health and safety.

Why are working conditions important?

Working conditions are important because it affects the way employees try and finish work and that could affect the business/company/team. It could also be the environment and how it shapes someone's life beyond working so that then they are mad and let all that frustration out at work. The working conditions can also impact the pay of the job and expectance of the employee.

What are the different types of working conditions?

There are many different types of working conditions bot the main ones are: Health and Safety, salary of the employee, the responsibilities employees have, working hours, vacations time, priorities as an employee and the environment. The environment is a big one because it can completely throw of the person who is looking for the job. For example, if someone is looking to get a job at a bakery but they see that the other people that work there are not very nice and friendly, and that the food looks really bad and so everyone that lives in the town hates you.

Do working conditions matter and if not, what do people deserve?

Working conditions matter completely because it also involves the materials that the employees can use in a job and in some jobs the materials are the main part. Also, they can build the employees confidence if the job is safe, secure, friendly etc... and without any of those the job could not be sustainable for an ordinary person. So, every single person deserves a good and sustainable working conditions but, in this world today that is near impossible but being worked on. The type of working condition that every person would need depends on who there working for, the job, the climate and how many hours they work.

How do different types of working conditions affect people trying to do their best at work?

People work harder if the working conditions are better, because if they are not so great at their job, it could affect them mentally and physically. However, if the employee actually likes the job, they would put a bit more effort in to doing what they have to do. At the same time, someone can really enjoy doing what they do for a living, but if they are not offered the proper training and tools to help them achieve their goals, then it can make for a negative work environment. People all deserve good working conditions but that now is not possible and that then demotivates people a lot. Finally, it is not always working conditions that makes them not try their best because it is also what is happening at home with their family and if they had an argument or are finding it hard to even survive. That is so because then they let all or that anger or sadness out when they are at work and that does not help them or anyone else who is working there and then the cycle continues.

If people get what they deserve in the workplace what would the world be like today?

If people got what they deserved in jobs the world would be a more cheerful place with less stress, sadness and anger. Also, the world would probably be a more sustainable place with all jobs being suitable for the human being and everyone trying their best because they would finally like going to work. There are two problems however, one is the cost of obtaining a healthy workplace environment and there could be a debate whether the employees should be paid more or less, and second people wouldn't want to spend as much time with their family because they would love their job so much that they wouldn't want to leave and they would think that for doing their favourite thing in the world they were getting paid a good amount of money.

A list of the ten most important factors. (The order does not matter).

Physical environment, (Inclusion, diversity, and relationships).

Working hours and workload.

Wages and salary.

Holiday time and employee benefits.

Training and abilities.

Development and opportunities.

Company culture and beliefs.

Consequences when making a mistake.

Stress.

Job safety and security.

Physical environment

What does physical environment? Physical environment is one of the biggest and most key factors of them all but the main aspects of it are that that was where the employee would work, with who they would work with, if they were included and what the building/place actually looked and felt like.

Why is physical environment important? It is important because this is where the employee/person will be spending a long time of their life and if it is not nice there that can affect their mental health and wellbeing. This sadness/anger could spread and affect other people too. This is also important in a job because it is a feature that everyone can see off of first site and that can attract a person looking for a job and help the business.

Working hours and workload

What does working hours and workload mean? Working ours is mainly decides how much they get paid for the job, how they might feel during the day because of how long they have to work, could lead to mental health wellbeing problems and less time relaxing and more stress. However, workload means; how much work the employee has to do, how much time they have to do it by and what stress could be placed on them.

Why is working hours and workload important? They are important because it can add additional stress and worry on to someone's back. If in a jab the employee gets per hour, they work it could lead to people not leaving work, not spending quality time with their friends and family and if they were sick, they would go to work even if they were sick and that is bad for them and for their colleagues around them.

Wages and salary

What does wages and salary mean? Wages and salaries are the amount you get paid over a certain period of time. They are agreed by the manager and the employee when discussing the terms and conditions of the job. It is finally decided when they come to an agreement and sign a contract. That can obviously change if the employee is not working hard or takes to many brakes/holidays or is always sick, in that case the manager is allowed to lower the salary of the employee or just fire them. On the other hand, however, If the employee is taking on more work or is working really hard and not taking a lot of brakes/holidays, the manager is then allowed to raise the salary of the employee, that means that the employee is now being paid more. The manager could also promote one of his employees and that means that the employee now has more power and responsibilities and in most cases that also means that the employee also now has a bigger salary because they would have more jobs.

Why are wages and salary important? These two factors a some of the most crucial factors in working conditions. They state how much the employee is expected to cover and that is always an important base for the employee. Then they are assessed and then given the agreed money and that gives the employee money to survive and stay ahead of potential problems that may block their path. It is also the way a job is useful, in the shoes of the employee.

Holiday time and employee benefits

What does holiday time and employee benefits mean? Holiday time has a simple meaning and that meaning is the amount of time given for brakes and holidays, however, if those might be it would always be the exact same amount of time. The time is always chosen by the boss but can be changed a specific circumstance. The employee benefits means that the employee working there can have some nice and good things for working there, like a mini award. Employee benefits are also chosen by the manger but have recently also been contributed and brought up by the employees themselves.

Why is holiday time and employee benefits important? Holiday time and employee benefits are really important to relieve stress off the employee and give them (in most cases a well-deserved brake. It also gives the employee a will to work because they know they are getting paid and with that money during those brakes they can go on holidays. They also make the schedule for the employees and give the employees a goal to reach before they stop working and that aim will really power them on to completing their task/job/work. This could then deeply benefit the business, and these are tricks that the managers use a lot to get the best out of his employees.

Training and abilities

What does training and abilities mean? Training is a word that means many things but, in this case, we are talking about how someone can get better and where they go to get help from a trained professional explaining it in the simplest and easiest way to you. There are also ways to train alone, so to teach yourself and many others. From the training that you get and experience that can then strengthen your ability to do something. Abilities means something you are capable of doing, good or bad, it does not matter, and with training you can strengthen your weak areas or abilities.

Why is training and abilities important? Training and abilities are crucial to a job because it shows the manager what you can do. After that the manager can place in the right position and give the right role in the job, but if he thinks that you are not able to handle or to do the jobs that need to be done and cannot fit the right role then the person looking for the job in that case would not get the join. So, for that person to have stopped that from happening they would have needed to gone through what the job needed and If he knew he was not able to fit any of those roles he should of got the right training or looked for another job that did have his right qualifications.

Development and opportunities

What does development and opportunities mean? Development is when someone starts from the start and gets the right training so that overtime, they get better and more experienced. When overtime they are getting better that is where they are developing their skills, knowledge, etc... Opportunities however, means, the chances that you are given in a certain way. Let's say you are looking for a job but now jobs that you like are available, that is called few opportunities. Then let's that you move to a different country to try and find a job you like and then there are so many good choices to choose from, and that is called many opportunities.

Why is development and opportunities important? Development is important because it means that you are improving at something and that you are really trying to learn something new. Opportunities however can be a lot different because with the skills that you have you may have different opportunities to other people, but sometimes you can get lucky and get loads of opportunities for jobs. These two factors are crucial because especially development is what you should always be doing and if you're not you need to change fast.

Company culture and beliefs

What does company culture and beliefs mean? Company culture and beliefs is relatively simple but at the same time can be very complex. Culture is a certain belief and place that you represent. That can be decided by your family, nationality, and skin colour/race. However, beliefs on the other hand can also be chosen by your family, nationality, and skin colour/race but you are also allowed to believe in what you want. So, the meaning of belief is something that you believe in and follow for your whole life, but if you don't want to and you want to stop believing in that particular thing then you are allowed to stop believing in that particular thing. All this context is also valid for a company and not just one person, the only thing that changes is that there are multiple people there and that they are all good friends because they follow the same religion.

Why is company culture and beliefs important? These two factors are vital in a job because if the company/business is not inclusive to people that don't have the same culture as the others and believes in different things and the company says we don't want you hear that is called being racist and that is so, so, bad in this world today. Also, sometimes the religion and beliefs of a company/business can get in the way and interrupt the job in a certain way, but at times in different company's/business's it is needed for brakes or just praying for something altogether or alone. The only problem is that if there is someone who has a different culture to their colleaguess and other employees that could be seen as really, really mean, and dis appreciative to the other person but thankfully that does not happen a lot in this world today.

Consequences when making a mistake

What does the consequences when making a mistake mean? Consequences is the punishment for doing something wrong or bad. A mistake however is when you have done something wrong and at times it could lead to severe consequences or at other times when making a mistake there can be no big deal and no consequences. The famous phrase that every person has said for generations is: When you make a mistake you just learn from it and improve for next time, you don't let it beat you and block you in your path.

Why are consequences when making a mistake important? This is important because if you make a mistake in a job, you should not be judged a lot about why you did that or how did that happen and it's all your fault. This can add an additional amount of stress to the employee, and this can lead to them not wanting to work, socialize and even worse try in life.

Stress

What does stress mean? Stress is a form of anxiety and pressure, and it is not good for the normal person's life and can mess with their mental health and well-being. Stress can come from mistakes, worries and health issues. The Employees that work there can also try to comfort the person not feeling one hundred percent this can make the person feel better and want to work more and harder.

Why is stress important? Stress is important but in a bad way but is also part of life. The main problem is that when an employee is stressed out, they tend to not work a lot because they are letting their thoughts get in the way of their life. If the employee is not working as hard as they should this can then lead to the company falling behind schedule and that is not good at all. This is called unproductive.

Job safety and security

What does job safety and security mean? Safety means how secure and calm you can feel when you are protected by possible dangers. That is the same for job safety but can sometimes not ne there because of the type of job. In the world more dangerous jobs tend to get paid more. However, job security is different, job security is when the employee fears losing their job because of instability from the employer. This can lead to them working too hard getting sick and then still going to work and this can lead to poor body health consequences.

Why is job safety and security important? Job safety is important because whilst you are doing your job to be paid in most countries there are laws to stop it being too dangerous without supervision. If not followed and found out by the government, there would be consequences. Security in a on the other hand can be chosen by the manager and the employee. To have longer in the job if agreed with the manager in a meeting they can sign a contract for a long- or short-term period. Obviously, that during the contract the manager could fire the employee if they are not working hard enough or trying their best.

Job example

The job example is a Professional Football player. I chose a football player because it matches all those ten factors well and I am comfortable talking about it and describing it.

Being a footballer is hard because you should be best of the best of your kind. This means that when you were younger you would have had to of gone through the right training and really believed in yourself and worked hard. You would have developed incredibly. Also to be a footballer you must have great abilities in the position you play on the pitch and have a particular talent. When training you want to be included in all of the activities that everyone does and want to have fun. Also, when you are playing a match, you want the pitch to be a good one same with the stadium and you would want the fans to be kind and cheer loudly. Obviously to have good relationships with all the players staff and fans at a football club can always help boost your confidence. In football in most countries football clubs don't have cultures or religions altogether but in some they do but for those clubs there are normally rules that you can't really join that club if you don't follow that religion, but that is not a bad thing. If you make a mistake during a match as a footballer normally depending on your position a mistake does not lead to something terrible but 2/8 times it normally leads to the other team scoring a goal, you missing an easy goal, you getting punished with a foal, yellow card or red card and finally the team could be punished because they get a penalty. After making a big mistake you could be put under a lot of pressure by the fans and then you would feel really, really stressed. The better the club that you play for the better the security and job safety would be. During matches in the stadium there would be stewards there on the touchline next to the pitch so no pitch invaders can get on to the pitch, then there would also be stewards around the stadium to help people/fans there watching the game and there would be a long line of stewards between the fans of the away team and home team so no fights happen. Continuing the theme of "the better the club you play for the better the..." in this case it is for the amount of money you get paid. Obviously if you are really good you get to play a better team and if you play for a better team, you get paid more. There are exceptions though because if you do not work hard enough the club is allowed to end the contract or reduce the contract. The amount of work you must put in as a full-time football player is immense because you train six days a week with only one day set for recovery, and you train all day. So, as a footballer the coaches do expect you to deal with all the work you have put in front of you. Now to get money as a footballer you sign a contract. A contract is a document that you make and agree on with the manager of the team you want to play/sign and it contains: How long you are going to play for that team, how much money you're going to be paid and all of the terms and conditions of the job. Sometimes the money is also not decided by how good the team is because sometimes the team is just rich for example there are loads of players that have moved to Saudi Arabia because their clubs pay you more than anywhere else. Finally, most players are moving to Saudi Arabia at the end of their career because they are not as good because they are old and so they go to get money, but in reality, football is all about fun!!

What are the different job opportunities of men and women?

Do men and women have equal job opportunities?

Overtime this problem of men and women not having the same rights and both not being treated the same and women unfairly has become a lot better because women are now seen as people who are intelligent people and people that can actually go to work. However unfortunately in the world today men are mainly still seen as stronger, brave, and more resilient people. So, typically you normally see women with the more boring and not paid jobs and then you see men with the best jobs and funniest for example they are mainly famous youtubers and normally the boss for whatever reason. So, let's say that the man and the woman both got the same grades and graduated at the exact same time and they both want to become an entrepreneur but in the end the man gets chosen and the women ends up being a cashier at a shop.

What are the different working conditions between men and women?

In jobs the working conditions can be completely different between men and women because if a man is seen to be stronger and fiercer at the military the people there would treat the man better and try to ignore the woman for many different reasons. Those reasons could be, they fear the man more, they see more power in the man and overall, everyone thinks men are better and if they treat the woman better, they are seen as weak and stupid/dumb. However, over the last few decades women have been seen to be more intelligent people and have been chosen to be leaders of a work project for example, teachers, secretaries, librarians etc... Reflecting on all this, Men are normally seen as strong and more powerful and scary people, but women are seen to be calmer and more intelligent.

The problem and goods of Crossing the border to work

What is it and famous examples?

Crossing border workers are people who come from one country and work in another. The most famous examples here in Ticino are Italians from north Italy that come to work in Switzerland in the Canton of Ticino. But there are many other examples all around the world the most famous example worldwide are Mexican people immigrating illegally to the U.S.A to work.

Is it good or bad?

If cross border working is a good or a bad thing it's very relative to your position .The first example is the cross border worker for him going to another country to work means more money and better working conditions more money because in Italy a monthly wage for a nurse is of 2.300 euros a month on the other hand in Switzerland her wage is of 6.000 euros a month. So, if she goes back to Italy with more money, she can have a wealthier life. Another example the entrepreneur for him the human force in Ticino is not enough so the entrepreneur's go and take human force from Italy and a lot of times they can even manage to save so money on that because they can pay less the cross-border workers because they still receive a higher wage that what they would receive in Italy. The ultimate point of view is of the treasurer of the country for the treasurer of the country cross border workers are an exceptionally good thing because they help with the economy of the country because they help with the value of the company so the taxes that the company gives to the state get higher.

The bad aspects?

Cross border workers have one main issue that every day they have to do a lot of car because to arrive to their job from their house it is a long journey of around 40-70 minutes so they need to wake up very early so they risk to arrive at work tired and do a worst job another problem is the cost of gasoline because they spend around 15 CHF of gasoline every day.

Working till' late at night

Working till' late at night can increase the work that you do. But working to much can affect your health, increase your stress levels, and decrease the level of satisfaction you feel with your job and life in general. The mains things that cause this are:

The lack of movement:

If you stay on a chair for already 8 hours a day going home and do an extra 3-4 that will result in 12 hours of sitting and around 8 hours of sleeping it's already 20 hours of working 4 hours remain if we assume you eat for 1 hour and dress up and pack up for another hour after that your stay with your family to watch a movie and you spend 2 hours doing that so you don't have time to go outside and that can contribute to your mental health .

Lack of sleep:

As I said before the average sleep globally is of 8 hours a day but working till 8 at night could compromise your sleep because the blue light of the computer keeps you to not sleep a lot so you will probably stop you from sleeping a lot and this could compromise your productivity and your concentration.

Sticking to your passions:

If you start working when you have already finished your scheduled job, you will not have time to do your passions but on the other hand someone who does his scheduled job but at home doesn't do his job at home he can still follow his passion.

Why people should work during holidays

Some industries (like healthcare, emergency services and transport) require staff to work during holidays to maintain essential services. In these cases, working during holidays is necessary for the maintaining the infrastructure of society. Some people need more money, so they usually work extra and especially if you get payed by minutes. Others enjoy working during the holidays because they prefer the routine, enjoy staying busy, or might not have any special plans for the holidays but instead enjoy working.

Reasons People Should Not Work During Holidays:

Many holidays are celebrated for religious, cultural, or family reasons. Taking time off during these times allows people to connect with traditions and relationships to increase their wellbeing and happiness. Physical and mental rest is needed in holidays so as soon as the worker comes back, he is ready to go and can have a better job and it can lead to bigger profits for the company. Everyone needs time away from their job to have a personal life and enjoy it. Overworking, especially during times that are traditionally for rest, can damage relationships and personal satisfaction.

CONCLUSION

People should try to balance work and personal life to make the company, and the employee have a bigger profit and have the right rest and at the right time. So, if a person needs rest the company should be able to give the employee rest to work on his personal life.
